Chris McCausland Reveals His Daughter’s Hilariously Brutal Reaction to Competing on Strictly

On Thursday’s episode of This Morning, hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley welcomed Strictly Come Dancing stars Chris McCausland and his dance partner Dianne Buswell. Chris, who made history as the first blind contestant on the BBC show, has been impressing both viewers and judges with his performances. However, he revealed that not everyone in his life was initially confident about his decision to compete.

Speaking to Ben and Cat, Chris admitted that those close to him had their doubts. Ben asked, “Your wife and your daughter, I’m sure, knew the show. Did they think, ‘You’ll be alright,’ or did they see it as a big challenge?”

Chris replied with a laugh, “Everyone I knew was like, ‘How are you going to do that?’ Even my daughter said, ‘No, daddy, you’ll fall off the stage and break your leg!'”

The conversation turned to Dianne’s family, with Ben asking if her father was disappointed upon learning she was paired with Chris. This comes after Chris humorously revealed that Dianne had told her family, “winning wasn’t everything” after their pairing, told Daily Express.

Laughing, Dianne clarified, “He definitely wasn’t disappointed! But I think, like a lot of people, they thought, ‘You’re going to have a lovely time, but it might not last that long.’ We just didn’t know how it would work. But, he’s changed his tune now!”

Currently, Chris and Dianne are sitting sixth on the leaderboard with a combined score of 52 for their first two weeks’ performances. While not at the top, Chris has quickly become a fan favorite, and bookies have made him the frontrunner to win the competition.

Jake Ashton, an entertainment betting expert at OLBG, commented, “Chris McCausland, Strictly’s first-ever blind contestant, has captured the hearts of viewers and impressed the judges. His odds have tumbled to 11/8, making him the current favorite to lift the Glitterball Trophy. His polished routines have resonated with fans, making him a strong contender.”

Meanwhile, last weekend saw Olympic swimmer Tom Dean become the first contestant eliminated from the competition. After landing in the bottom two alongside Toyah Willcox, head judge Shirley Ballas made the final decision. Reflecting on his time, Tom said, “I’ve had the best time and working with Nadiya has been incredible. I wish I could have done more, but it’s been so much fun.”
