Keir Starmer’s WORST Nightmare Comes True—Over 30,000 Small Boat Migrants Arrive Under His Watch

Since Sir Keir Starmer took up residence in Number 10, more than 30,000 asylum seekers have arrived in the UK by crossing the English Channel — a figure that’s turning heads and stirring criticism. Starmer, who promised to “smash the people-smuggling gangs” both before and after the election, is now facing mounting pressure as the numbers keep climbing.

Just this past Friday, 154 people made the journey in four small boats, pushing the total since Labour’s July 5 election win to 30,034, according to analysis by MailOnline. It’s not just a post-election spike either — this year alone, 6,792 people have made the crossing as of April 4. That’s more than any other year on record for the same January to early April stretch, reported by the Express.

Looking back, the comparison is stark. In 2020, by April 4, only 465 people had arrived. A year later, that figure went up to 1,134. Then it jumped to 4,548 in 2022 before dropping slightly in 2023 to 3,770 and ticking back up to 4,644 in 2024. But 2025 is already setting a new pace — and not the kind of record any government wants to see.

Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp didn’t hold back, telling MailOnline: “These shocking figures show this Labour government has lost control of our borders.” He accused Starmer of giving up the only real deterrent — the Rwanda plan — before it ever took off. “Crossings are up 31% since the election and 2025 so far has been the worst year ever as a result. Starmer’s claim to ‘smash the gangs’ lies in tatters,” Philp said.

Yvette Cooper, the Home Secretary, pointed to the weather as a big factor behind the rising numbers. Speaking to the BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, she said: “March had much higher levels and the really unacceptable situation that we’re in is because of the way the criminal gangs have taken hold… we cannot continue like this, where the number of calm days affects the number of crossings and affects our border security.”

The Home Office also weighed in, stressing that stopping these dangerous crossings remains a priority. A spokesperson told MailOnline: “We all want to end dangerous small boat crossings… We will stop at nothing to dismantle their business models and bring them to justice.”

The government says it has a serious plan — tougher enforcement, more returns, and cracking down on illegal working — but with the numbers still surging, many are left wondering if it’s too little, too late.
