Carol Vorderman Sparks Outrage with Starmer ‘Apology’ Comment: ‘That Won’t Keep Pensioners Warm!’
0Former Countdown star Carol Vorderman, once a vocal supporter of the Labour Party, has publicly expressed her disappointment in the party’s recent actions. Vorderman revealed that her opinion of Labour has dropped significantly, from a rating of four out of ten to a mere two, following their decision to cut winter fuel payments for millions of pensioners.
The decision, which could leave vulnerable pensioners struggling to choose between heating their homes and affording food this winter, has sparked outrage from Vorderman, who called it “categorically wrong.” However, her call for Labour leader Keir Starmer to apologize on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour has been met with criticism from listeners who argue that an apology is not enough, reported Daily Express.
“Carol Vorderman calls for an apology from Sir Keir Starmer over winter fuel cut. APOLOGIES don’t keep pensioners warm!!!!!! REINSTATE the allowance!!!” one frustrated listener tweeted. Another added, “The woman who mercilessly criticised the Tories so that her hero Starmer could get elected now has to admit she was wrong.”
A third critic remarked sarcastically: “Carol Vorderman when it’s Starmer: ‘Oh, apologise to the nice little pensioners, will you? I’m not happy with you, babes,'” suggesting she would have responded more harshly if the Conservative Party had made the same cuts. Others lamented Vorderman’s continued political commentary, with one listener complaining about her “banging on about her ideas to mend broken Britain.”
Despite the backlash, Vorderman remains unapologetic about her outspoken views. In a recent interview promoting her new book Now What? A Mission To Fix Broken Britain, she revealed that she actually enjoys provoking her critics. “I have the devil in me,” she admitted. “Sometimes I deliberately wind them up. I enjoy a little spat now and then!”
Vorderman, who has spoken openly about her childhood in “abject poverty” in Wales and her time living in a circus, also made a bold demand: no one from Eton should be allowed into the House of Lords until “at least 2050.” She argued that the influence of the prestigious school is greater than ever and a symbol of injustice and inequality.
In addition to her criticisms of political elites, Vorderman vowed to take on misogynists in the coming year, although she kept her exact plans under wraps. Her latest political comments have sparked division, especially among Tory voters, many of whom blame her for encouraging pensioners to vote for Starmer, only to feel betrayed by the cuts.
