Carol McGiffin Reveals Why She’s “Frightened” of Fellow Loose Women Star Denise Welch

Former Loose Women star Carol McGiffin has opened up about why she feels “frightened” of her fellow panelist Denise Welch, despite their close friendship. The two have shared the Loose Women stage during multiple stints on the ITV show and have even enjoyed sunny vacations together.

However, Carol, who stepped away from Loose Women last year, recently admitted that Denise’s passionate defense of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has made her cautious. Carol explained that she has been reluctant to speak out about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for some time. Writing in her column for Best magazine, she said, “First, I don’t really care enough to have a go at them, reports The Mirror.

Second, because I’m aware talking about them gives them more relevance than they actually deserve. But lastly, I’m frightened of my friend Denise Welch whose wrath is cast upon anyone who dares criticise them.” The tension between Denise’s strong support for the royal couple and Carol’s hesitance to engage in the debate highlights the differing perspectives among the Loose Women panel.

In May, Denise received hundreds of complaints to Ofcom after she fervently defended Harry and Meghan following criticism from former royal press secretary Dickie Arbiter, 83. Denise, unbothered by the backlash, called the complaints “utterly pathetic” on Instagram.

In her defense of Meghan, Denise wrote, “I am appalled that this woman is abused and berated by the public and media on a daily basis. Not many people could mentally cope with the hate she contends with. No wonder her husband took her away, and despite everything, they are thriving. Their reception in Nigeria has been wonderful to see.”

During a heated Loose Women discussion, Dickie Arbiter criticized Prince Harry, stating, “Harry has been rubbishing the family since he walked out in 2020,” referring to Harry’s memoir Spare and various TV interviews. Denise responded by questioning the reasons behind Harry’s actions, citing significant events in his life, such as the death of his mother, Princess Diana, and the introduction of Queen Camilla into the family.

Expressing her frustration, Denise concluded by saying she was “just sick to death” of the constant criticism Meghan receives, adding, “It’s a disgrace, the way she’s treated.” Carol’s admission about her fear of Denise’s “wrath” underscores the deep divide in opinions on Harry and Meghan, even among close friends.
