Carol Kirkwood Takes Extended Break from BBC Breakfast, Matt Taylor Steps In as Replacement

On Monday’s episode of BBC Breakfast, viewers noticed the absence of longtime meteorologist Carol Kirkwood, who is expected to be off the air for the next few weeks. The 62-year-old, a familiar face on the show since 1998, has taken a temporary leave from her weather duties.

To fill her spot, BBC bosses have brought in meteorologist Matt Taylor, who took to social media to share the news with his followers. Writing on X (formerly known as Twitter) to his 56,000 followers, Taylor announced, “Good morning all! I’ll be looking after most of your @BBCBreakfast weather forecasts for the next 3 weeks. It’s a humid start to the week too, with rain for some. Thunderstorms are possible for a few in the Met Office YELLOW warning area”, told Daily Express.

Fans of the show quickly welcomed the 46-year-old meteorologist into their homes, with many expressing their well wishes in the comments. One user wrote, “Good morning Matt, have a wonderful day,” while another noted, “Good morning Matt, the weather has definitely been unpredictable.”

Kirkwood’s absence comes as a surprise to many viewers, given her nearly three-decade tenure with the network. Having joined the BBC in 1998, she has become a beloved figure on the morning show, making her temporary departure all the more noticeable.
