Couple’s Luxury Life Exposed as They Fund High-End Holidays and Tech Splurge with Stolen £250K

Ashley Singh, 39, and Sophie Bruyea, 20, have been living a life of luxury, funded by £250,000 stolen through a sophisticated theft scheme. The couple targeted gym-goers, with Singh rummaging through lockers while their owners worked out. They then extravagantly spent on high-end technology, designer items, lavish holidays, and even a pedigree puppy, flaunting their ill-gotten gains on social media.

However, their lavish lifestyle came to an abrupt end after the Metropolitan Police linked them to a series of thefts. Detective Constable Luis Da Silva from the Met’s economic crime team emphasized the seriousness of theft in London, highlighting the stress, pain, and financial loss it causes to victims. He expressed satisfaction in bringing Singh and Bruyea to justice, offering solace to those affected and encouraging others who have experienced theft to come forward.

The couple’s pattern of crime was first spotted by a local officer, leading to an investigation by economic crime experts. Singh and Bruyea were eventually arrested at Gatwick Airport, returning from Paris with €2,000 worth of designer goods.

In total, 18 fraud reports were linked to them, with the majority in the Met area, and others in Sussex, Hertfordshire, and Cambridgeshire. The judge at Croydon Crown Court condemned their “wide-ranging spree,” highlighting the emotional and professional toll on their victims, and labeled their actions a “wicked conspiracy.”

The court sentenced Singh to three years in prison and Bruyea to 20 months in a young offenders’ institute, suspended for two years. Bruyea’s sentence also includes a rehabilitation program and 120 hours of unpaid work. The police now aim to seize the couple’s assets to compensate their victims.
