Bonnie Langford’s ‘Most Stable Marriage’ in Showbiz Ends After 20 Years – Here’s Why

Bonnie Langford, the beloved child star who rose to fame in the 1970s TV series Just William, has led a life filled with highs and lows, both personally and professionally. Now 60, Bonnie remains a celebrated actress but has faced her share of challenges, including her divorce and the loss of her childhood friend Lena Zavaroni.

Bonnie married Paul Grunert in 1995 after meeting him during a theatre production in 1987. Reflecting on their relationship, Bonnie once shared: “It’s always the times in your life when you’re not looking that you find what you need.” The couple enjoyed two decades of marriage and had a daughter together. However, their union ended in 2015 in what was described as a “quickie divorce,” with Bonnie citing Paul’s “unreasonable behavior” as the reason for their separation.

Despite the split, the pair reportedly remained amicable, prioritizing their daughter’s well-being. A friend of Bonnie’s told the Mirror at the time: “She split from her husband quite some time ago, and it is very amicable. They remain good friends. The priority for her and Paul is their daughter.”

The separation was a surprise to many, as the couple was regarded as having one of the most stable marriages in showbusiness. A source told The Sun: “It was a massive shock. Bonnie and Paul were viewed as having one of the most stable marriages in showbusiness”, reported by the Express.

Away from her personal life, Bonnie has also been open about the profound loss of her childhood friend Lena Zavaroni. Lena, who struggled with depression and anorexia, tragically passed away in 1999 at just 35 years old. Bonnie revealed in 2018 that Lena’s death “still haunts” her, reflecting on the struggles her friend faced.

Bonnie’s professional journey has been equally remarkable. A graduate of prestigious institutions such as the Arts Educational School and the Italia Conti Academy, she has remained a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, from starring in EastEnders to her iconic role in Doctor Who. Paul, her ex-husband, also had a background in the arts, studying at the Guildford School of Acting and later working as a stage technician and set builder.

Bonnie’s life is a testament to resilience, navigating personal heartbreak while continuing to thrive in her career. Through it all, her dedication to her craft and her family remains unwavering.
