BBC’s The One Show Goes Off Air as Roman Kemp and Alex Jones Announce Hiatus

The One Show has been pulled from the schedule in a significant shake-up, with presenters Roman Kemp and Alex Jones bidding farewell to viewers on Thursday night.

With the 2024 Olympic Games kicking off in Paris, BBC chiefs have opted to prioritize coverage of the global sports spectacle over the much-loved magazine program. Regular viewers are accustomed to tuning into The One Show at 7 pm each evening on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, but Thursday marked the last episode for the next few weeks.

The program, led by Alex Jones, Roman Kemp, and Jermaine Jenas, is going on a “summer break” while the BBC gears up for extensive Olympics broadcasting. The news was delivered tonight, just after pop sensation Katy Perry graced the show to discuss her new track, Woman’s World, and her forthcoming album, 143.

American superstar Katy Perry was the last to sit on the iconic green sofa, with her interview being trimmed down as the show neared its conclusion. At the end of the show, Roman Kemp made the announcement: “Thanks so much to Katy Perry.” He then revealed the big change in plans, stating, “Enjoy the Olympics, see you on the 12th of August,” reports the Mirror.

Alex Jones chimed in with a cheerful “Bye, have a nice summer,” before the show wrapped up. Meanwhile, Katy provided fans with an exciting glimpse into her romance with actor Orlando Bloom during the show. The Firework singer, 39, who got engaged to the Pirates of the Caribbean star three years ago, is known for keeping her love life fairly private. Despite being world-famous figures, both Katy and Orlando choose not to broadcast details about their personal affairs, especially pertaining to their marriage plans, which have been kept under wraps for the last half-decade.

She also shared her love for the city of London. She said, “It is one of my favorite places beyond Santa Barbara, where I live. Orlando and I spent so much time in London and lately, we have been thinking about maybe splitting our time. We love it so much.”

She added excitedly, “We feel like you guys. We spent all day in Hyde Park yesterday and we went to the Princess Diana playground and it’s just great for kids, it’s amazing.” As The One Show goes on hiatus, viewers can look forward to its return on August 12, while they enjoy the comprehensive coverage of the Olympics.
