Anne Nolan Reveals Linda Nolan’s Unique Funeral Wishes: Pink Coffin, Mantillas, More

In an emotional recounting of her late sister Linda Nolan’s final wishes, Anne Nolan has shared intimate details of a farewell that was as unconventional as it was heartfelt. Linda, who passed away earlier this year at the age of 65 after a lengthy battle with secondary breast cancer, left a lasting impression not only through her vibrant life but also through her distinct ideas about her own send-off.

Over the past weekend, a memorial service was held at St Paul’s Church in Blackpool, the very venue where Linda had once married her husband, Brian Hudson. The service saw hundreds of people gather to pay their respects to the beloved star, whose larger-than-life persona had touched countless lives. As Anne Nolan appeared on Good Morning Britain alongside Susanna Reid and Ed Balls, she described the day as one filled with both sorrow and joy, reported by Lancs Live.

Reflecting on the unusual yet touching elements of Linda’s funeral, Anne recalled, “It was very emotional, very sad, but on the other hand it was kind of joyous as well. I mean, she picked her own coffin, the pink glittery coffin was her idea. That’s the only thing… Oh the other thing she wanted, she wanted us to wear mantillas”, according to the Express.

She continued with a light-hearted tone as she explained the family’s reaction to her sister’s quirky request. “You know, the scarf things that you wear? The lace things? So my daughter and Coleen actually ordered them online. When they came, we chatted about it, and we said, ‘I think she might’ve been having a laugh there!” Anne added with a smile, “I don’t really think she wanted us to wear mantilla, so we didn’t wear them. But, that was the kind of humor she had.”

When Susanna Reid inquired whether they had tried them on, Anne laughed and said, “I’m not sure what she was thinking about! She was probably just having us on, you know. But she did say she wanted us all in black and people to think about her and cry.”

The service itself was a testament to Linda’s remarkable impact. Susanna Reid recalled, “In the days running up to the funeral, we were reporting on Good Morning Britain, that you as a family had said, if anybody wants to come, anybody, then come.” Anne confirmed this heartfelt invitation, stating, “That’s what Linda wanted. We were doing it for her really. It was really strange because on the way to the church in the funeral cars, as we arrived there was loads, hundreds of people outside the church.”

The overwhelming turnout was so moving that, according to Anne, “My sister Maureen started crying. I mean, we were all very emotional, but she started crying because of all the people that were there. She said, ‘I’m so glad because Linda would’ve been so disappointed if all these people hadn’t turned up.'”

Looking back on her sister’s life and the day of the service, Anne Nolan summed up her feelings, “She’s going to be missed, such a lot. She was a forceful character. She was a big, big character in our family and in lots of people’s lives. I realized that now, she was amazing.” Through these poignant reflections, the Nolan family honors Linda’s memory, cherishing not only her unique wishes but also the indelible mark she left on everyone who knew her.
