André Maeder Takes on New Role as CEO of Selfridges

André Maeder, the current CEO of the luxury department store chain Selfridges Group, is set to expand his responsibilities by becoming the CEO of Selfridges. This announcement comes as Andrew Keith, the current CEO of Selfridges, steps down in the autumn to pursue new ventures.

The Selfridges Group, which includes Selfridges in the UK, De Bijenkorf in the Netherlands, and Brown Thomas Arnotts in Ireland, confirmed the leadership change. Tos Chirathivat, chairman of Selfridges Group and executive chairman and CEO of Central Group, commented on Maeder’s new role, saying, “With over thirty years of executive experience in retail, André brings a strong track record and an extensive knowledge of the sector and global brands to his new role.”

Chirathivat also expressed gratitude towards Andrew Keith for his significant contributions to Selfridges, stating, “We are also grateful to Andrew Keith for his contribution to the success of our iconic UK business. He has been an invaluable member of the Selfridges team, leading the business out of the Covid lockdowns and through its acquisition in 2022. We thank Andrew for his hard work and wish him all the very best in his future endeavors.”

Selfridges, a name synonymous with luxury retail, was founded by Harry Gordon Selfridge. The first store opened on Oxford Street in 1909, and since then, the brand has expanded with three additional stores in Manchester and Birmingham.

Maeder’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for Selfridges as it continues to navigate the post-pandemic retail landscape. His extensive experience in the retail sector is expected to drive the brand forward, leveraging his deep understanding of global brands and market trends.

Under Keith’s leadership, Selfridges not only weathered the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic but also saw significant developments, including its acquisition in 2022. Keith’s leadership during these turbulent times has been instrumental in maintaining Selfridges’ position as a leading luxury retailer.

As André Maeder steps into his new role, the Selfridges Group is poised for continued growth and innovation. His leadership is anticipated to bring fresh perspectives and strategies to the company, ensuring that Selfridges remains at the forefront of luxury retail.

The transition marks a new chapter for Selfridges, promising exciting developments under Maeder’s guidance. With his extensive background and proven track record, Maeder is well-equipped to lead Selfridges into a future of sustained success and innovation.
