Amy Dowden Shares Princess Kate’s Compassionate Message During Cancer Treatment
Amy Dowden, a professional dancer known for her appearances on “Strictly Come Dancing,” recently disclosed a heartwarming interaction with Princess Kate, highlighting the support she received from the royal during her cancer treatment.
Dowden, who joined the show in 2017, was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer last April after discovering a lump in her breast. She underwent a mastectomy and chemotherapy, and happily, she announced in February that her doctors had found no trace of cancer, although she won’t receive the “all clear” for five years.
During an appearance on “Loose Women,” Dowden shared the encouraging words she received from Princess Kate while undergoing chemotherapy. “I was lucky enough to meet [Kate] during my chemo treatment, and she gave me so much time. She was so kind. Actually, her words were, ‘Let us know if there’s anything we can do’,” Dowden recounted, told by Daily Mail.
This exchange gains additional significance in light of recent revelations about Princess Kate’s own health challenges. Last month, it was revealed that the Princess of Wales is undergoing “preventative chemotherapy” following the discovery of cancer after an abdominal surgery in January.
Dowden expressed empathy for Kate, reflecting on the daunting prospect of undergoing such treatment publicly and managing the responsibilities of motherhood. “Just knowing that she’s finding out that she has to have chemo and knowing what you have to go for. My mum’s had cancer twice and it’s just the thought. [Kate] has to go through it in the public eye and she’s got three young children. I don’t want anyone to go through it, it’s still very raw to me,” she said, reported by US Weekly.
In response to Kate’s situation, Dowden took to social media to extend her support and underscore the indiscriminate nature of cancer. She wrote: “The news has personally hit me hard, thinking so much about our Princess! Cancer doesn’t discriminate. There’s no textbook, right or wrong way to deal with a diagnosis and treatment. It’s personal and I really hope all can #bekind and support our Princess. I was lucky enough to meet The Princess of Wales during my treatment who was so kind, supportive and generous of time. Sending all my well wishes with treatment ahead and as always to all those affected by cancer.”
