Alison Hammond Feels the Pressure to Stay Glam as She Approaches 50

Great British Bake Off host Alison Hammond, known for her vibrant personality and infectious laugh, is reportedly feeling the strain of maintaining her appearance in the competitive world of television. According to an insider speaking to Heat Magazine, Alison has been “secretly panicking” about preserving her looks, especially as she encounters age-defying stars like Demi Moore and Gillian Anderson during her hosting duties on This Morning.

The Birmingham-born presenter, who first shot to fame on Big Brother in 2002, has since enjoyed a flourishing career, hosting shows like Bake Off and acting in various roles. However, the insider claims that the pressure to look “young and ultra-glam” has taken its toll on Alison, particularly as she nears her milestone 50th birthday.

Alison, now 49, has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent years, reportedly losing 11 stone by overhauling her diet, cutting out sugar, and embracing regular exercise, including boxing. On This Morning, she opened up about her weight loss journey, sharing: “I was nearly 28 stone… and that is morbidly obese. I used to buy an extra seat because I didn’t want to put anyone in a situation where I was touching them.”

Although Alison once tried a gastric band to aid her weight loss, she admitted it wasn’t the solution for her, saying: “It just didn’t work for me. I didn’t like the feeling of it. You still feel hungry, but you can’t eat,” as reported by Birmingham Live.

As she approaches 50, Alison is reportedly concerned about competing with younger presenters in the often unforgiving world of daytime television. The insider revealed: “Alison knows that the world of TV – especially daytime TV – can be brutal for women of a certain age.”

While stars like Amanda Holden and Cat Deeley seem to defy aging, Alison is reportedly questioning whether she can maintain her glamorous on-screen persona in the years to come. The source suggested she might even consider cosmetic surgery despite warnings from her friends. “Her friends have begged her not to mess with her looks,” the insider said, cautioning that small changes could lead to a “slippery slope” of ongoing procedures.

The desire to meet the relentless standards of appearance in the public eye remains a challenge for many, with the source noting: “It feels like, whatever you do to make yourself look better, it never seems enough.”
