Missing Cat Reunited with Family four years after Disappearing from Home
Four years after losing her beloved cat Tinsel, Maggie DeGreenia was lucky enough to find her again through a local shelter’s website.
In December 2021, Tinsel went missing. For weeks, people searched for her, posted about her on Facebook groups, called shelters, and put up missing signs.
DeGreenia tried everything she could, but in the end, she had to accept that her beloved pet was gone.
The 27-year-old from Vermont has been living with Tinsel since 2017, when she got her from a shelter in Lunenburg. Four years later, Tinsel mistakenly left DeGreenia’s house and disappeared.

“We called local shelters for weeks and looked for her by car and on foot,” DeGreenia said. She eventually gave up and just hoped her baby would find a new, loving home.
Then one day, DeGreenia got a text from her cousin saying she had seen Tinsel on a local shelter page with her “moustache,” which everyone knew right away.

“She texted me, ‘Hey important, I think I found Tinsel,'” she told SWNS. “I couldn’t believe it when I saw the picture, and I started crying right away. I called Riverside Rescue, the shelter, as soon as I could. I was still crying when I informed them what had happened.
Tinsel knew her owner right away at the shelter reunion. She pressed her forehead against Maggie’s in a moving show of love that she described as “was the most incredible feeling.”
The shelter said that folks who had been caring for Tinsel until December picked her up and then gave her up.
