Christopher and Desiree Hart-Spegal Proudly Raise 19 Kids and Consider Expanding Their Family

Desiree, 36, and Christopher, parents to 19 children with another on the way, recently opened up about the online criticism they face and why they remain undeterred from growing their blended family. The couple’s children, ranging in age from 22 years to 19 months, include nine boys and ten girls, with 17 still living at home.

Speaking to Truly, Desiree addressed accusations they received online. “People accuse us of overpopulation because we have 19 children,” she said. Christopher added, “There are some toxic people out there. There are some people who, for whatever reason, do not love families. ‘This should be illegal.’ ‘Tell me you live off the taxpayers without telling me.’”

Before meeting, Desiree had three children, and Christopher had eight. Together, they’ve had nine biological children, and Desiree has been pregnant 12 times. Despite the chaos, the couple describes their family life as “organized chaos.” Desiree shared, “I do at least two loads of washing every day during the week, while Saturdays can see me doing 10.”

The parents admitted that raising such a large family has financial challenges. Christopher works as a roofer, and the couple earns additional income through social media, where they share their unique family life. However, not all online feedback has been supportive.

Critics often question how the couple can provide quality time for each child. Christopher addressed this concern, stating, “We have an open-door policy at our house. So, when you need time, you get time. When you want time, there is time.”

As the couple awaits the arrival of their 20th child, they hope for a boy to balance the number of boys and girls in the family. Despite the criticism, they believe the joys of having a big family outweigh the struggles. “There’s never a dull moment,” Desiree said.

The family’s story has sparked diverse reactions online. A video featuring their life drew thousands of comments. “As long as they can care for each child properly, go for it,” one person wrote. Another added, “If the kids are happy and the parents have enough money, what’s the problem?”

However, not everyone is supportive. One commenter asked, “Why bring another child into this horrible world?” while another said, “Too many kids. Please let it be your last.”

Through it all, Desiree and Christopher remain committed to their family, believing that love and togetherness make their unconventional household thrive.
