Met Office Reveals Where Snow Could Hit the UK in November

As November approaches, the Met Office has hinted at where the first snow of the season could fall in the UK. In their latest long-range forecast, the Met Office suggests that some northern and eastern areas might see snow showers early in the month, though this is far from guaranteed. In a forecast spanning October 30 to November 8, they reported, “Into the start of November, there is a chance the weather could (briefly) turn much colder/brighter, with a chance of snow showers in northern and eastern areas, but it’s equally possible these could stay clear of the UK, or the milder conditions could remain in place.”

The forecast presents an intriguing scenario for snow lovers, as the nation waits to see if winter will arrive early this year. While it’s possible colder weather could briefly touch down in parts of the UK, the Met Office indicates it’s just as likely that milder conditions will persist through early November.

Following this period, the Met Office has released two additional forecasts for November, covering November 2 to November 11, and November 12 to November 26. Both reports highlight a continuation of settled weather across much of the country, largely due to high pressure. “High pressure is likely to dominate the weather across many parts of the UK during this period. This will mean plenty of dry and settled weather through to the middle of November,” they added, suggesting that southern regions, in particular, could experience extended dry spells.

This settled weather pattern, however, could bring cold nights with frost and occasional fog, especially where skies clear overnight. Northern areas, and especially the far north and northwest of Scotland, may experience more unsettled conditions, including periods of rain and stronger winds, while southern regions are expected to see lighter winds.

The Met Office also noted that temperatures are likely to remain around average overall but warned of potentially colder nights at times. The outlook for mid-November hints at a shift towards more unsettled conditions, signaling that any early calm could give way to wetter weather as the month progresses. “After a relatively settled start to November, around mid-month there will probably be a change toward more unsettled conditions for a time,” they said, keeping the door open for possible rain or colder snaps as winter edges closer.

For those hoping for an early taste of snow, it seems the chance exists, though November is expected to be mostly calm and dry—at least for now.
