David Tennant’s Wife Georgia Opens Up About Cancer Battle

Georgia Tennant, actress and wife of Doctor Who star David Tennant, once revealed the emotional turmoil she faced after being diagnosed with early-stage cervical cancer, via the Express. In a deeply personal account, Georgia, who married David in 2011, shared that she had begun planning her own funeral before even telling her husband about the diagnosis.

The couple, married for seven years at the time, learned of the diagnosis after abnormalities were found in a routine smear test. Georgia later revealed the terrifying moment when doctors confirmed her diagnosis of early-stage cervical cancer, as reported by The Mirror.

Reflecting on the moment, Georgia credited the smear test with saving her life. She shared her story to raise awareness about the importance of cervical screenings, explaining that the test “stopped, beat and cut out” the cancer before it had the chance to spread.

In a post on her personal blog, the mother-of-five wrote, “Before I’d made it upstairs to tell my husband, I’d started planning my funeral.” She continued, “Having kids takes you to that place pretty quickly, I find.” Georgia recounted one hospital visit where a doctor informed her that she had CIN2, a pre-cancerous condition where two-thirds of the thickness of the cervical surface layer is affected by abnormal cells. This condition carries a higher risk of developing into cervical cancer if left untreated.

Following a cervical excision procedure, Georgia shared the results with her followers, revealing the life-changing news. “The lovely doctor called yesterday. Results are back. It was cancer,” she wrote. “They’ve got it all, but it was cancer. Survived cancer without ever realising I had it. As you can tell, I’m still processing this.”

She went on to describe her shock, explaining how she narrowly avoided the cancer spreading: “My betraying little cervix had begun an attempt to kill me off, and by a stroke of baffling luck, I had stopped it, beat it, cut it out before it had a chance to make it out of the starting gates.”

David Tennant, reflecting on his wife’s health scare, told The Daily Telegraph, “At least we were spared the prospect of living with, ‘You’ve got this, and can it be caught?’. But I still have these flashbacks of, ‘What if you hadn’t…?’ I don’t think I acknowledged at the time how serious it could have been.”
