Coronation Street’s Jack P Shepherd Kept Engagement Plans Secret Amid ‘Problem’ Concerns
Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd, known for his role as David Platt since 2000, recently surprised fans and even his closest friends by revealing that he secretly proposed to his long-term girlfriend, Hanni Treweek. The couple, who have been together since 2017, announced their engagement via Instagram, sharing joyful moments from their safari holiday.
In a joint Instagram post, Hanni shared the exciting news, writing, “5.06.24 I said YES to forever!!!” alongside pictures from their African adventure. Jack later opened up about the proposal on the On The Sofa podcast, which he co-hosts with fellow Coronation Street actors Colson Smith and Ben Price. “I proposed to my girlfriend. I went to Africa, didn’t I? You all saw the safari,” Jack said, adding that he kept his plans a secret, not even telling his friends or co-stars, told Daily Express.
“I didn’t tell you I was off on a safari and I didn’t tell you I was going to propose. I didn’t tell anyone.” The actor admitted that Hanni had no idea what was coming, but he felt there would have been “a f***ing problem” if he hadn’t proposed during the trip. “If we’d have gone out to the safari and come back with nothing on her hand, there’d have been a problem, do you know what I mean? It would have been like, ‘What are we doing?'”
Jack also shared the lengths he went to in order to find the perfect spot for the proposal. He entrusted their safari tour guide to locate a safe area amidst the wild surroundings. “He had to find a spot that was like ‘ok, we’re in the clear now, you can jump out’,” Jack explained. The proposal took place under a tree, where they enjoyed a picnic, and the guide even helped capture the special moment on video.
To make the moment even more memorable, Jack used a codeword to signal the guide before popping the question. “I said something like, ‘We’re in the Serengeti and we’ve seen animals that mate for life,'” Jack recalled. When Ben asked if he then proposed, Jack confirmed with a smile, “Yeah. Shall we be mates officially?”
Jack and Hanni’s relationship blossomed after meeting through Coronation Street, where Hanni previously worked as a researcher and storyliner. The couple’s engagement marks a new chapter in their love story, much to the delight of fans and friends alike.
