Kate Garraway Shares Behind-the-Scenes Fun with Hugh Bonneville on ‘Douglas Is Cancelled’

Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway delighted fans by giving a behind-the-scenes peek at her cameo role in the ITV drama “Douglas Is Cancelled.” However, the real treat for her followers came when the show’s star, Hugh Bonneville, playfully tried to distract Kate by goofing around behind the famous GMB sofa.

Kate appears in the four-part drama, which features Downton Abbey’s Hugh Bonneville and Doctor Who’s Karen Gillan as TV news anchors embroiled in scandal. In her cameo, Kate plays herself, interviewing Hugh and Karen’s characters, Douglas and Madeline. She shared her experience in a video posted on social media, describing it as surreal.

“I’ve just been interviewing Hugh and Karen – Douglas and Madeline – as a little cameo role as their first interviewer,” she explains in her video. “And it was really good fun… It’s so convincing. I’m not going to believe them whenever I interview them now as they were so convincing as Douglas and Madeline!”

As Kate recorded her video, Hugh could be seen crouching behind the sofa, much to the amusement of the crew. Laughter erupted from behind the scenes as Kate seemed momentarily distracted by the commotion, unaware of Hugh’s antics, told OK! Magazine.

Followers online were quick to appreciate Hugh’s playful behavior. One viewer commented, “What woman doesn’t love a man with a childlike sense of fun?” Another fan directed their praise at Hugh, writing, “Brilliant! I love your appearance top-notch pratting about. It looks like you’re having fun.”

The video was actually filmed several months ago during the production of “Douglas Is Cancelled.” In recent weeks, Kate has been absent from the GMB sofa due to a family health crisis. The 57-year-old presenter has been caring for her father, Gordon, who fell ill earlier this month. Kate left ITV immediately after a live episode of the show to be by his side.

This distressing situation follows the tragic loss of Kate’s husband, Derek Draper, in January. Derek had been battling persistent health issues after contracting coronavirus in March 2020, which caused significant damage to his organs.

Despite these personal challenges, Kate’s playful behind-the-scenes video offers a heartwarming glimpse into the lighter moments of her professional life, showing her resilience and ability to find joy even during difficult times. Fans are hopeful for her return to Good Morning Britain and continue to support her through her family’s ongoing health struggles.
