Prince William’s Amused Reaction to Royal Revealing His Playful Nickname

Members of the Royal Family, despite their formal titles, enjoy a bit of light-hearted fun with nicknames, as Prince William recently demonstrated. His response to a royal’s revelation of his cheeky three-word nickname became the stuff of legend, by Mirror.

The Prince of Wales was dubbed “One Pint Willy” by Mike Tindall, who is married to William’s cousin, Zara Tindall. Mike, a former England rugby legend, accidentally shared the private nickname during a podcast episode aimed at supporting Rugby League star Rob Burrow, who is fighting Motor Neurone Disease.

In the candid moment, Mike explained the origin of the nickname: “For the Prince of Wales, he is known as ‘One Pint Willy’. He’s not the best of drinkers, coming from a sport where it’s built on the social aspect and a couple of beers being sunk quite often. That’s one I will definitely give away for the Prince of Wales.” Zara, recognizing the potential for a faux pas, quickly remarked to her husband, “Oh my god. You are in so much trouble,” as reported by the Mirror.

When Prince William later met with Rob Burrow at Headingley Stadium in Leeds to honor him and his former teammate Kevin Sinfield with CBEs for their fundraising efforts for motor neurone disease, he showcased his good humor about the situation. Rob mentioned the podcast revelation, prompting a chuckle from William who shared, “It was you who got the nicknames out of him—he apologized to me about that. When I saw him, I told Mike, ‘When you say you’re not going to mention your nicknames doesn’t mean you mention mine, it’s not fair’. I’m sure it’s quite fun with Mike.”

Meanwhile, the royal family is navigating significant personal challenges. The Princess of Wales, Kate, was diagnosed with cancer at the end of March and began preventative chemotherapy in February. Despite her treatment, Kate remains positive and is reportedly “well and getting stronger every day“.

As the family spends the Easter holidays together, Prince William has been balancing his duties as a supportive husband and father with his royal responsibilities. He plans to resume his public engagements once his children return to school post-Easter. While the duration of Kate’s treatment remains uncertain, she may attend public events based on her comfort and medical advice, but a full return to her royal duties is not yet planned.
