UK Braces for 550-Mile Wide Snow and Rain Onslaught: Key Cities in the Path

This weekend, the UK is poised to face a formidable 550-mile-wide front of snow and rain, impacting numerous regions across the country. According to WX Charts, which relies on Met Desk data, the severe weather is expected to unfold on Sunday, April 14. Forecasts from Ventusky also predict snowfall in April, indicating a significant deterioration in weather conditions following Easter, particularly during the month’s second weekend.

The onslaught is set to affect several areas in Scotland, including Inverness, Wick, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, and Glasgow. In England, cities like Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Blackpool, and Burnley are preparing for the impact. The adverse weather will also reach across the channel to Belfast in Northern Ireland.

The Midlands will not be spared, with Birmingham, Coventry, and Wolverhampton facing harsh conditions. In the south, London, along with Bristol and Cardiff in Wales, and southwestern cities like Southampton, Plymouth, and Portsmouth, are also on the alert for significant snowfall and rainfall.

The Scottish Highlands, Cairngorms National Park, and Caithness are expected to witness considerable snowfall, while the Midlands and southern England are predicted to experience intense rain showers. The worst-hit regions will see a mix of heavy snow and rain, disrupting normal life and activities.

BBC Weather forecasts from April 8 to April 14 suggest above-average precipitation levels, with southern and western UK areas likely facing the wettest conditions. Scotland might see closer to normal precipitation levels but will remain unsettled. Temperature fluctuations are expected due to the weather systems, but the overall temperature should stay above the early April average.

The Met Office’s outlook from April 9 to April 16 hints at persistently unsettled conditions, with occasional drier intervals expected to be brief and mostly in southern regions. Despite the likelihood of cloud, rain, and strong winds, temperatures are anticipated to be above average during this period.
