Queen Elizabeth’s Final Moments Shared by Private Secretary

Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away at the age of 96 on September 8, 2022, at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, left the world curious about her final moments. Over a year after the longest-reigning British monarch’s death, intimate details have emerged, thanks to insights from her private secretary.

The biography “Charles III: New King, New Court” by Robert Hardman includes poignant revelations from Sir Edward Young, the Queen’s private secretary, who was present during her last hours.

His notes describe a serene departure: “Very peaceful. In her sleep. Slipped away. Old age,” he wrote, according to the Daily Mail. He added, “She wouldn’t have been aware of anything. No pain.” This memo, now preserved in the Royal Archives, was previously unknown to the public.

As news of the Queen’s deteriorating health broke on the morning of her demise, her children King Charles III and Princess Anne were able to be with her at Balmoral. However, other members of the Royal family, including Princes Andrew and Edward, and grandsons William and Harry, arrived after her passing.

On the first anniversary of her death, King Charles III shared a heartfelt tribute to his mother, expressing gratitude for the public’s support and recalling her life of dedicated service. “I am deeply grateful, too, for the love and support that has been shown to my wife [Queen Camilla] and myself during this year as we do our utmost to be of service to you all,” he stated.
