A teacher at Christ the King Primary School in Islington, North London, has been suspended following allegations that the educator “punched multiple times” a 10-year-old pupil. The Metropolitan Police are actively investigating the incident, where the child reportedly required treatment at the A&E.
Charles Etumnu, the father of the 10-year-old involved, recounted his son’s version of events. According to the child, he was on a stairwell landing observing another student in trouble when he felt a forceful push from behind. The teacher then allegedly dragged him to a confined space and began punching him, prompting the child to cry out. The child complained of chest pains, leading his parents to take him to the A&E.
The school initially suspended the child, providing a suspension letter claiming the child had engaged in aggressive behavior toward a staff member. The letter alleged that the child had injured the staff member by hitting them multiple times, knocking off their glasses, and pulling out a clump of their hair. The family disputed these claims, and the suspension was rescinded within an hour, citing new information, told Sky News.
The family, previously having positive experiences with the school, decided to withdraw all three of their children due to their dissatisfaction with how the incident was handled. The Metropolitan Police received a report about the alleged assault on November 10. The incident gained public attention when a video of Charles confronting the deputy headteacher at the school gates went viral on TikTok.
The chair of governors at Christ the King Primary School, James Potts, confirmed that the staff member involved in the allegation remains suspended, emphasizing that the school takes the matter “extremely seriously.” The school is cooperating with the Metropolitan Police, Islington Council, and the Diocese of Westminster in conducting a thorough investigation.
While the police have not received reports of serious injuries, they are interviewing those involved, including several witnesses, as part of their ongoing investigation.
