Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been chastised for leaking information about King Charles’ phone call

This week, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle faced allegations of being “total hypocrites” after it was claimed that they leaked details of their phone call to King Charles on his 75th birthday. This incident adds another layer to the already strained relationship between the Sussexes and the rest of the royal family.

Critics have pointed fingers at Harry and Meghan, accusing them of breaching privacy protocols by allegedly sharing details of their private call to King Charles. A palace insider criticized the couple for their inconsistent approach to privacy, highlighting how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex advocate for privacy but supposedly allowed the details of their call with the King to be publicized.

Page Six reported that a royal source expressed frustration over the incident, citing how the couple’s call, meant to be a private birthday wish, was reported in the media. The UK’s Daily Telegraph covered the story, revealing that Meghan joined in the call and that the couple’s children, Archie and Lilibet, sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to King Charles via a video message.

This call is significant as it reportedly marks the first conversation between Prince Harry and King Charles in over six months, following the release of Harry’s tell-all memoir, “Spare,” in January. This book further strained Harry’s relationship with the royal family. The last public appearances of Harry and Charles together were at the King’s coronation in May and Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022.

Amidst the accusations, another source close to the Sussexes refuted the claims of hypocrisy, insisting that Harry and Meghan were not responsible for the leak. This source also mentioned that plans were underway for another conversation between Harry and Charles, signaling a potential effort by Harry to improve his relationship with his father.

A royal insider emphasized Harry’s desire to mend his relationship with King Charles, stating, “Of course Harry wants to have a better relationship with Charles. He is his father after all.”

The ongoing royal rift has been a subject of much public interest since Harry and Meghan distanced themselves from Buckingham Palace in January 2020. The situation worsened after the publication of “Spare” and was exacerbated by the Sussexes’ claim of not being invited to the King’s 75th birthday celebrations.

A Sussex spokesperson expressed disappointment over the lack of an invitation, while a royal insider confirmed the couple’s unawareness of any celebrations, though they anticipated Harry would privately wish his father a happy birthday.
