Investigation Into Misleading Poster in Co Londonderry Bus Shelter Continues: Two Men Released on Bail

In Co Londonderry, a controversial poster at a bus shelter falsely associated three individuals with the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI). Two men, aged 38 and 58, have been released on bail after being detained on charges of “suspected possession for terrorist purposes and related offenses.” They were granted bail on Sunday evening to accommodate ongoing police inquiries.

The contentious poster was spotted in Dungiven last Thursday, and according to the authorities, it presented incorrect details. A woman, whose details were allegedly on this poster, expressed her concerns on Saturday, fearing she might have become a potential target. However, police have clarified that she has neither current nor past affiliations with the PSNI.

The PSNI has urged the public to come forward with any relevant information or evidence about this incident. They are especially interested in dash cam footage from anyone who might have passed through Dungiven on the night of August 31.

This incident comes shortly after a significant PSNI data breach where details of approximately 10,000 officers and staff were unintentionally made public. The leaked information comprised details such as surnames, initials, ranks, bases, and units of the employees, which were disclosed following a freedom of information request. Confirmations from the PSNI reveal that this list is now possessed by dissident republicans, who persistently aim at the officers.

Furthermore, two other individuals were taken into custody regarding the data leak on Saturday, but they too have been released on bail.
