6 Secrets of Healthy Hair

It is not impossible to have healthy hair full of luster and shine like you see in TV commercials. Follow a few hair care tips and you should be on your way to having hair that looks fresh, vibrant and pretty.

1. Cover your hair when you step out in the sun

The harsh rays of the sun are likely to affect the texture of your hair when you step outside. Direct exposure to the sun may make your hair brittle, resulting in more hair fall and increased dryness.

If you have colored hair, the shade of your hair color may also start lightening with overtime exposure. Protect your hair with a headscarf or a hat. You can choose from colorful scarves to stylish hats to compliment almost any look.

2. Comb your hair while it is slightly wet

After shampooing if you wait for your hair to become bone dry before you comb it, you can invite hair fall. Hair also tends to tangle when it is dry. To keep your hair from getting frizzy and unmanageable after shampooing, comb it with a wide-toothed comb while it is slightly wet.

Don’t use a hairbrush because hair may tend to break easily when it is wet. Comb your hair in light sweeps with a wide-toothed comb.

3. Oil your hair once a week

Oiling hair seems to have gone out of vogue, but its benefits for your hair are many. This is an age old secret to having healthy and shiny hair. Oil your hair and massage your head so that the oil seeps deep into your scalp. Leave the oil overnight and wash your hair the next day.

The massage will help in increasing blood circulation and the oil will help in replenishing and locking moisture in your hair. You can use aroma oils for hair or fragrant botanical oils if you want to add an exotic touch to this routine.

4. Mix eggs with your shampoo

Eggs are known to work wonders for keeping your hair moisturized and bouncy. Before you wash your hair the next time, whip one egg with the amount of shampoo you would use for one wash.

Keep the shampoo and egg mixture on your hair before washing it off in the shower. Your bath may reek with the odor of egg, but your egg shampoo treatment may be worth it.

5. Consume foods that are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and protein

Having a balanced diet is not enough for having healthy hair. One of the secrets to healthy hair is consumption of foods that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. This includes walnuts, salmon, avocados, pumpkin seeds, sweet potatoes, oysters, eggs, spinach, yogurt and lentils.

Informed and balanced consumption of these foods can give you a good combination of Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Vitamin A, protein, beta carotene, and biotin. These essentials will keep you healthy and give your hair a natural and organic boost.

6. Trim your hair regularly

Going to the salon to trim your hair is like going to the dentist for an overall checkup. Split ends will start appearing when hair is not trimmed for long intervals. Split ends can make your hair appear shabby and damaged even if they are strong and luscious at the roots.

Going to the salon for a quick trim will help you get rid of these nasty-looking split ends. Your stylist will also be able to screen your hair for any grays or excess dandruff. Treat it like getting a general health checkup for your hair.
