10 Bad Beauty Habits to Break Right Now

We all want to be beautiful and do our best every day to reach that objective. However, there are some habits that work against us and are a barrier to our goal. We give you some of the beauty habits that you need to let go of.

1. Wrapping your wet hair in a towel

If you are using strengthening shampoo and conditioner, then they won’t prove very effective if you have the habit of wrapping your hair in a towel while it is still wet. This will also lead to excess hair breakage and damage.

You will be left with frizzy strands if you wrap your wet locks tightly in a towel, or brush them very vigorously. Be very gentle with wet hair and if you want to detangle it, use a wide-toothed comb.

2. Sunbathing

Excessive exposure to UV rays can do you more harm than you can imagine. It can lead to wrinkled skin and make the skin sag. In the worst-case scenarios, it can also lead to various types of cancers. Just make sure you always have on a good sunscreen with protective SPF and avoid excessive sunbathing.

3. Picking pimples

We all know how irritating spots and pimples can be. However, if you keep squeezing the spots, you are giving way to bacteria that leak out and can spread under the skin’s surface.

Also, if you keep picking your spots, you are more likely to end up with a scar. If your spots are really bothering you, then you must seek professional help and not try to deal with them on your own.

4. Washing your face in the morning

It is advisable that you cleanse and wash your face before you go to sleep rather than in the morning. The reason behind this is that your skin works the whole night to regenerate and re-establish its pH level and enhance the production of collagen. If you wash your face first thing in the morning, then you will strip the skin of essential natural oils.

5. Over-plucking your eyebrows

Different eyebrows go well with different face shapes. Just like it is with a hairstyle, you must choose the way you pluck your eyebrows very carefully. It is not necessary that thin eyebrows will go with all face shapes.

Also, if you pluck them too thin, then you will constantly have a surprised look on your face. Don’t just blindly go for a certain type of eyebrows, seek professional help.

6. Excess exfoliation

Your skin has the tendency to shed dead cells on its own. If you exfoliate too much, then you will strip your skin of natural oils. You will start having dryness in the long run and it will soon turn into a vicious circle. Though scrubbing is essential, it should not be over-done. It may also leave you with red skin and whiteheads.

7. Using rubber bands for your hair

Though rubber bands may seem like life-savers on a hot and humid day, they can truly damage your hair. If you put an uncovered elastic band on your hair by repeatedly twisting it around the hair, then it can cut into the hair shaft. When you remove it, it may lead to hair breakage. You must instead opt for bands that are fabric-coated.

8. Using dirty makeup brushes

A dirty makeup brush not only hampers the even application of the beauty product, it also brings your skin in contact with bacteria. You will not get a clean finish with a dirty brush and will not be able to get healthy skin.

9. Peeling dead skin post-sunburn

Remember that every time you peel your skin after sunburn, you are also peeling healthy skin along with it. The fresh skin that gets exposed to this action is even more prone to infections and sunburns. You can instead apply lotion, exfoliate the skin while bathing, and then scrub gently.

10. Neglecting your neck

Every time you put on makeup or apply sunscreen, you might tend to leave your jawline or your neck. This exposes them to harmful elements and can lead to skin aging.

You must always remember that no matter what area of the skin you leave exposed to the sun, you can still suffer from cancer. So, make sure you take care of neglected areas like the tops of your ears, jawline, neck, and hands.
